Notes from Chair
I had a great day at the Alathon, everyone pitched in and things went really well. We had great speakers and a good time sharing. In the morning we had a panel sharing on Changes and Choices, 4 - 15 min. speakers. We did a worksheet later in the day where everyone wrote about a particular change that had occurred associated with a choice. Our afternoon speaker Sandra D. was wonderful. It was a really nice day.

Notes from Chair

I am so honored and humbled to have served as the 2015 Alathon Chair. The experience was something I will always treasure and never forget.

The day was every thing I had hoped for and more. The love and support from all of the committee chairs and volunteers was amazing. There were so many people helping and going above and beyond what was asked of them. Nowhere else in my life have I experienced the fellowship and unity that we have been blessed with in Al-Anon.

Even though there were a few minor road bumps, they all turned out to be detours to something better. With what I have learned from all of you, I feel I was able to handle them a little differently than I would have pre-Al-Anon. I learned so much from this experience and want to thank each and every person who contributed to this beautiful day. It truly takes a village for an event like this, and what a wonderful village we are!

I especially want to thank my tireless co-chair Heidi H., who was such an endless supporter and cheerleader. I know next year's Alathon will be amazing. I also want to thank Vicki V. who invited me to be the 2014 co-chair. She knew I could do something that I did not know I could. And all of the committee chairs and volunteers who selflessly signed up for whatever needed to be done, and then willingly did it with smiles and laughter.

And speaking of laughter, the best part of my day was the "Happy Dance" and the balls flying everywhere. I loved looking around and seeing all of us having so much fun. I now know that Happiness is not elusive, but it truly is an 'inside job'. THANK YOU for teaching me that!

I love you all and can't wait for next year's Alathon!

Love in service,

~Carol G.

Notes from District Representative
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to let you all know what a wonderful day I had at the Alathon. Vicki, this year's Chair, and Carol, the Co-Chair, did such a great job. Andrew, our Alateen speaker, and Mindy, our Al-Anon speaker, were amazing. There were 3 small group meetings throughout the day, too. The Miracles, our entertainment, were a miracle to see again. I laughed so hard my side hurt. The food was delicious. The Raffle Baskets were phenomenal. The decorations were gorgeous. I cherish my Serenity Prayer Book Mark. There was so much recovery at the Alathon. I felt happy, joyous, and free! And the tiredness at the end of the day was a good kind of tiredness. Thanks for being a part of all of it. Linda S.

Notes from the Co-Chair
I was honored to co-chair the 2014 Alathon. Vicki was incredible to work with, and the amount of support from all of you was amazing. I had so much fun and learned so much from everyone involved. It certainly 'takes a village', and we proved once again that there is nothing we can't do when we do it together. The day was so full of love and joy and serenity, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful event. Looking forward to seeing all of you there next year! Love and hugs, Carol G.

2013

April 13, 2013 - Out of the Darkness Into the Light
American Martyrs Church (O'Donnell and St. Bridget halls)
in Manhattan Beach. 9AM through 4PM

Notes from the Chair

What an honor and a privilege to Chair the Alathon. I have loved the Alathon ever since I started attending back around 18 years ago. I never would have imagined that I would be the Chairperson one day. The Alathon takes on a life of it's own. A happy, joyous occasion filled with recovery; from meetings, to games, to Raffle Baskets, the luncheon, entertainment and whatever else we dream up. The purpose of course is to raise funds for our district, so there is the responsibility to stick to budgets and oversee the process; however, as responsible people in recovery, we do our very best and that is always good enough as we are different people then what we were when we came into the program. We are a work in progress and have become better then that of what we once were, so growth in the program results in becoming a good leader and many times a good follower as well. We learn to take direction, keep our mouths shut, let people do their thing to come up with and create something beautiful/wonderful as to contribute to the Alathon. Don't forget our high power is the ultimate planner of this event as He has the last say in it all... from how it looks, to how/who come, how it does financially.. it's always about our higher power. Thank you Linda and Linda for your guidance and of course this years Co-Chair Vicki and all of the committee chair people and everybody who took part in this years event. It really was an honor and a privilege. Thank you God! Helen L.

2012

April 14, 2012 From Chaos to Serentity - The 12 Steps
American Martyrs Church (O'Donnell and St. Bridget halls)
in Manhattan Beach. 9AM through 4PM

Notes from the Chair
Chairing the Alathon was an amazing thing to walk through. When I came into the program, I was very sad and shy. I didn't think that I had anything to say that was important to anyone else. I had helped with things before, but my opinion didn't count too much. Then through Al-Anon, I learned that my opinion counted. Plus, I began to share my experience, strength, and hope. My wise and loving sponsor got me into service.

Yesterday, Linda L. and I were able to chair this beautiful event together. I looked around and saw what all of us had accomplished working as one huge team. During the day, a friend whispered to me to take a look around the room. The hall was filled with happy people.I was utterly awestruck. At that moment, I really understood what it feels like to be loved just for who I am. I want to thank my higher power for putting all of you into my life and giving me this precious opportunity.

With love and hugs,
Linda S.

2002

My best recollection is the joy of that day and how fun it was to have so much participation from committee members and all the different meetings. Christy R. and I went to the Al Athon in El Segundo to get some ideas and it was Christy who came up with the idea of the raffle baskets. She wanted to implement that into our Al Athon and proceeded to make that happen. We had fabulous baskets and it gives me so much pleasure to see how that has continued through the years. We also had someone come and share all the Archives from Al Anon and AA. She came and stayed the whole day. It was lovely. Mickey W.
